An evening of merriment at the annual church party

The Lychgate Players arranged and hosted St Andrew's Annual Church Party on the evening of 24 January 2009. With a black and white theme, the evening kicked off with table quizzes and 'socialable' party games to ensure everybody entered into the party spirit. An extensive buffet super was provided - with each guest brining his or her own savoury contribution for the meal. After solutions were provided to the quizzes and prizes awarded to the winners, the evening concluded with an informal programme of entertainment of songs, light-hearted poems and amusing stories. Grateful thanks are expressed to all those people who contributed so much to make the party a successful, fun-packed evening. We look forward to the next event to be arranged by the Lychgate Players.

A spirited production

The Lychgate Players celebrated their 40th Anniversary with a production of the improbable farce Blithe Sprit by Noel Coward. The group first performed this popular comedy several years ago to great acclaim and a number of members of the original cast reappeared in this latest production – although not necessarily in their original roles. The play’s action involves socialite Charles Condomine who is haunted by the ghost of his first wife Elvira. Following a séance conducted by Madame Arcati, a somewhat eccentric medium, the ghostly form of Elvira becomes increasingly determined to upset Charles’ current marriage by all means at her disposal.

As funny today as when it was penned in the 1940s, Blithe Spirit was performed at 7.30pm in the Church Hall of St Andrew’s Methodist Church, Pump Street, Worcester, on the evenings of Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th and Saturday 5th April 2008.

Members of the public and congregation of all ages came along to enjoy an evening of fun and spooky goings on, and a great time was had by all. Congratulations to the cast, producer, backstage helpers and all those who made the production such a success.

Watch out for news of the Lychgate Player's next production scheduled for later in 2008.

Thank you to everybody who came along to watch the autumn production of -A Christmas Carol- (as presented by the Farndale Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild) I think it is fair to say that the audience on each night enjoyed watching it as much as the cast enjoyed performing it. My thanks go to everybody who contributed in any way to ensuring that it was a great success - to the actors, the back stage crew, the front of house team, the refreshment ladies, the audiences and last but not least to Jason Moseley who produced the play with such aplomb. The spring production will be in March and will probably be Noel Coward's wonderful comedy 'Blithe Spirit'. A play reading for this will take place on Monday 10th December at 7.30 pm in the Lounge at St Andrews. On Thursday 13th December the Lychgate Players are organizing a Christmas Quiz - the venue is yet to be confirmed, so please look out for details in the Church Notices. The New Year Party will take place on Saturday 26th January in the Church Hall which we hope will be a fun-filled evening for young and old alike. The Lychgate Players would like to wish you all a peaceful and joyous Christmas season.
